Abstract Line Design

First grade students created an abstract straw art design using paper straws and chalk pastels.  We examined art by a variety of modern artists to glean an understanding of the role and purpose of abstract art.  We discussed how color combinations create mood and can evoke emotion in art.  From there, students used a variety of color combinations such as warm, cool, and monochromatic in their artwork.
