New Blog!

Welcome to my new blog!  Since NSSD 112 is canceling their subscription to EduBlogs it was necessary for me to find a new platform.  After some research it seems that this may be the best one for job so let's get started.

This purpose of this blog is to inform you of all your student's activities and projects in the art room.  I will have links to other websites for you explore and hope you're able to take advantage of all there is to offer in the way of art and music on the web.

Now, let's get all the formalities out of the way. Here's my teaching philosophy for anyone who's interested;

"My teaching philosophy is grounded in providing my students with opportunities to learn life skills, draw connections between art and music, and develop confidence in the skills and knowledge they share through discussions, performances, and their art.

Students are provided with a foundation of art skills including drawing the human form, painting, weaving, hand building with clay, recycling and re-purposing found objects, sculpture development, and much more.

In music students engage in activities that provide them with opportunities to play both tonal (xylophone) and percussive (claves, maracas, etc.) instruments.  They are introduced to the instruments of the orchestra, note symbols and values, and foundation pieces including classical works, traditional American music, and songs that build their skill set.

Teaching the subjects of art and music in conjunction with one another is very natural.  Their connection to one another is ingrained in history from primal instruments and the caves of Lascaux, France to the art Wassily Kandinsky and his connection to the music of Igor Stravinsky".

Stay tuned for more posts to come!
