Sir Anthony Hopkins can write!

Not only is he one of today most talented actors, he's also a gifted composer.  Take a listen to his waltz entitled, "And the Waltz Goes On".

Kindergarten Fruit Wreaths

Tracing, cutting, folding, gluing, and decorating can be very challenging for Kindergarten students.  This project challenged their fine motor skills and provided repetitive skill-building exercises that also allowed them to be creative.  When students had made a necessary amount of fruits for their wreaths, they were encouraged to use realistic colors to enhance the appearance of their fruit.  They included brown spots on bananas and pears and highlights on the more shiny fruits like apples and grapes.  They are currently on display in the main hallway.

Abstract Line Design

First grade students created an abstract straw art design using paper straws and chalk pastels.  We examined art by a variety of modern artists to glean an understanding of the role and purpose of abstract art.  We discussed how color combinations create mood and can evoke emotion in art.  From there, students used a variety of color combinations such as warm, cool, and monochromatic in their artwork.

Clay Food...with personality!

Hungry? Well don’t try eating this food! We examined the art of Claes Oldenburg and Joost Elffers for inspiration. They are best known for their gigantic food sculpture installations and anthropomorphized food characters. We created our own food characters using clay, googly eyes and imagination!

Swatch Watches

That's right Ladies and Gentlemen-the Swatch watch is back and BIGGER than ever! About 3 feet larger to be exact. Fourth grade students were challenged to take on the role of the graphic designer and create a watch for the 2015 line of Swatch watches. Their designs needed to be original, easy to understand, and well designed. Examples of actual Swatch watches were shared with students so they could develop an idea of the design concept. As you can see from these examples, some students decided to be VERY detailed. Our swatch watches are currently on display in the fourth grade hallway and in the hallway leading to the library.

Cakes from Finedore's class

Mmmmm...more cakes! They're getting more and more delicious by the class!  Mr. Finedore's fifth grade class worked for weeks to produce these high quality cakes made from plaster gauze, acrylic paint, Sculpy® clay and creative energy.  They are currently on display by the library.  Please stop by and enjoy them during conferences!
